Reiki day,
my saving grace.
Heart and home purified by new friends
and their healing intentions.
Free falling laughter,
tears,
a chorus of shivers.
I always feel like I’m floating,
the ecstasy of breathing.
empty but aware,
the tingle of the atmosphere
emitting from this galaxy of Being.

Some energetic fields we know intimately:
sound, heat, light, color.
But there are others,
like when you think of a friend who calls you at that exact moment.
Or how a mother knows
something’s wrong with her child
despite their best attempts to hide.
When you feel a tug at your heart,
a cascade of shivers,
when tears well in your eyes
and catch you by surprise,
when Life disarms you and climbs inside—
the Lover is closer to you than your jugular vein.
Practicing Reiki,
or, you could say,
being a mystic,
a somatic experiencer of the Divine.
is just tapping into that thing,
that sharedness,
the space between,
getting so silent and still you can hear the Nothing
in the Everything.
Die to yourself and become Alive—
an impossible task most of the time.
But that breath when It gets you right
is enough to spend your whole life trying.

My poems are a simple melody,
sung with as much beauty as I can muster,
eyes, hips, and wrists a flutter.
Snake charmer,
philosopher,
love poet—
drunk, not stoic.
My meditations m o v e,
stumble down the stairs into cold rooms
where shivers send the flares of Spirit’s arrival.
. . .I know you.
